College of Education
The University of Iowa College of Education offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate academic opportunities that are regularly ranked among the best in the nation. Students study with our world-renowned faculty who are leaders, scholars, and innovators in their fields.
College of Liberal Arts & Sciences- Perry A. and Helen J. Bond Fund for Interdisciplinary Interaction
The purpose of this endowment fund is to promote interactions among Iowa faculty and students in areas of cross-departmental strength, and to support interdisciplinary events that draw scholars from other institutions to the UI campus, both as presenters and as audience.
Department of Spanish and Portuguese
Our faculty offer courses in Spanish, Spanish American, and Chicano literature and culture; in Portuguese and Luso-Brazilian literature and culture; and in Hispanic linguistics, while also providing language courses in Spanish and in Portuguese from the introductory to advanced levels. We have a new and already nationally prominent area in Spanish creative writing. Students (including non-majors) can participate in one of many study-abroad opportunities in Spain and Latin America.
Division of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures
Our division provides leadership and vision and fosters interdisciplinary interactions for its constituent units, which have missions closely allied with one another. The Division also administers the Language Media Center, which is a resource unit for students and faculty in all of the constituent units.
International Programs
To be effective citizens and to excel in their chosen careers, UI students must develop cross cultural competencies, and we must provide them opportunities to learn to function successfully and with ease in global environments. The learning and discovery guided by faculty at the University of Iowa reshape our understanding of the world, improve quality of life for many, and create economic benefits in the State of Iowa and around the globe. International relationships and partnerships, from the individual to the institutional, within and beyond our campus, add value to and expand the reach of our curricula, research, outreach, and economic development activities. We must successfully leverage these partnerships, including with our alumni living abroad. The University of Iowa must think and act as a global institution to be in a position to excel over the coming decades.
